Thecla Bodewes Shipyards, a leader in innovative maritime solutions, is proud to announce the launch of its latest development, the 5,600dwt selfdischarging dry cargo vessel GADUS. This state-of-the-art vessel, specifically designed for dieselelectric propulsion, represents a significant leap forward in energy-efficient and environmentally friendly maritime transport.

Innovative Self-Discharging Capabilities
An outstanding feature of the GADUS vessel is its self-discharging capability, which allows cargo to be efficiently discharged without the need for external equipment. This feature significantly reduces port time, increases operational efficiency and reduces costs associated with cargo handling. The vessel is well suited to carry a wide range of dry bulk commodities, making it an ideal solution for a variety of shipping needs.

Advanced Propulsion and Efficiency
The new GADUS vessel is equipped with a highly efficient diesel-electric propulsion system, designed to optimize fuel consumption and reduce emissions, in line with global efforts to promote greener shipping practices. This advanced propulsion system not only ensures operational efficiency but also offers enhanced maneuverability, contributing to safer and more reliable voyages. The four generator sets offer maximum flexibility and the sophisticated power management system enables intelligent
voyage planning.

Designed for Future Sustainability
In addition to its current features, the GADUS vessel has been prepared for the future of maritime transport. It is designed with the capability to be retrofitted with Wind Assisted Ship Propulsion (WASP) systems and battery banks. Space is also reserved for conversion to alternative fuels such as methanol and hydrogen. As environmental concerns become increasingly important to global shipping, Thecla Bodewes Shipyards has integrated sustainability into every aspect of the vessel’s design. The combination of diesel-electric propulsion and WASP retrofit capability underlines the yard’s commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting cleaner, more sustainable shipping practices.

Large Cargo Hold Volume
The vessel boasts a large cargo hold volume of no less than 277,000cuft, maximizing cargo capacity while maintaining optimal stability and performance. This feature allows larger cargo volumes to be transported, improving overall shipping efficiency and reducing the number of voyages required to transport the same amount of cargo. Multiple grain stowage positions are incorporated. The spacious hold is optimised for easy loading and unloading, making it ideal for high-demand trades.

Commitment to Innovation and Sustainability

Modular Design up to 7,000dwt
The design team at Thecla Bodewes Shipyards have used intelligent design tools to develop the GADUS vessel so that it can be extended to 111 meters at 7,000dwt with 2 cargo holds with a total capacity of 370,000cuft (10,477m3). The bow and stern are similar to the smaller 5,600 dwt GADUS and the vessel will benefit from the same diesel-electric propulsion system.

Availability and Orders
The new GADUS 5,600dwt dry cargo vessel is now available for order, with customisable options to meet specific operational requirements. The first GADUS vessels have been ordered and will be delivered in 2026.

SMM-2024

From 3 to 6 September, Thecla Bodewes Shipyards will be present at SMM-2024 in Hamburg, the central meeting place for market leaders in the maritime industry. At its own stand, Thecla Bodewes Shipyards invites existing and new customers to discover its extensive portfolio of newbuilding projects. In addition to the latest development, the GADUS 5,600dwt self-discharger, the current newbuilding projects will also be presented, such as the SALMO, LABRAX, FEROX and CARANX dry cargo vessels.

Thecla Bodewes Shipyards will be present at stand no. 511 in Hall B7.
